Fennel Recipes – Estrogen Diet with Fennel

- Fennel seeds can be brewed as a tea using almost same method as fenugreek. Just Bruise the seeds in a mortar and pestle to release the essential oil before brewing. Use 1 teaspoon of seeds for each cup water. Infuse in hot, boiling water for at least 10 minutes in covered vessel. Strain and serve hot.
- Fennel plant can be prepared in several other ways using either the bulbs, roots, or the stalks. The most commonly used part aside the seed is the bulb and stalk. The bulb can be prepared either by cooking, sauteing, or roasting. While the stalk can be used to make a broth.
- Method for cooking a Fennel bulb: Wash the fennel thoroughly in preparation for cooking. Use a kitchen knife to cut the white fennel bulb into about half inch (1.3 cm) wide rings. Cut the fennel the same way you would slice an onion. Use a basting brush to lightly coat the pieces with olive oil. Place the fennel on top of a grill over medium heat. Cook the rings for approximately 5 minutes per side or until you see grill marks.
- Method for sauteing: Cut the white fennel bulb in half inch (1.3 cm) wide rings with a kitchen knife. The fennel should resemble onion slices.Place 1 teaspoon. (5 ml) of olive oil in a sauté or frying pan, and heat it until the oil is warm. Add the rings into the pan, along with salt, pepper, and any seasonings you prefer. Cook the rings for approximately 5 minutes per side or until they are golden brown and tender.
- Method For Roasting: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (191 degrees Celsius). Use a kitchen knife to cut the white fennel bulb into quarters, and place them into a roasting pan. If you like, you can add vegetables such as carrots, mushrooms, potatoes, or any others into the mix for an even greater variety of flavor. Use a basting brush to lightly coat the pieces with olive oil, and season with salt, pepper, and any other seasonings. Cook the fennel and vegetables for 45 minutes.
- Making a fennel Stalk broth: Cut the green stalks off the fennel with a kitchen knife, and slice them into cubes or bite-size pieces. Pour the chopped stalks into a chicken or vegetable base, and add in other vegetables to taste. Season with salt, pepper, or whatever seasonings you like. Simmer the stock over medium heat on your stove for approximately 30 minutes or until all vegetables are tender.
Women who are pregnant can have estrogen levels rise by 100 times the normal levels. If you’re pregnant, don’t try to increase your estrogen levels or take any supplements or medications without talking to your doctor.
